The Health Benefits of Lemons!

About a year ago,  I received a homemade lemonade recipe from my Mother-In-Law.  It has really been a hit at our house and so I thought I would send it your way too!  (It’s at the end of this post)  You will love it even more, when you learn about all the Health Benefits that lemons carry! ~

Health Benefits of Lemons

Lemons should be a part of every Natural Health advocate’s diet!  From cleansing to balancing the ph levels of the body, Lemons can help the body in so many ways!  Here is an excerpt from the author of  the book, “Back To Eden” by Jethro Kloss >>

The medicinal value of the lemon is as follows:  It is an antiseptic, or is an agent that prevents sepsis [the presence of pathogenic bacteria] or putrefaction [decomposition of tissue].  It is also anti-scorbutic, a term meaning a remedy which will prevent disease and assist in cleansing the system of impurities.

Due to the digestive qualities of lemon juice, symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, bloating and belching are relieved.  By drinking lemon juice regularly, the bowels are aided in eliminating waste more efficiently thus controlling constipation and diarrhea.”

This is why drinking a glass of lemon water in the mornings before breakfast can be so beneficial!

Here is more…

“The lemon is a wonderful stimulant to the liver and is a dissolvent of uric acid and other poisons, liquefies the bile, (less chance of gallstone development) and is very good in cases of malaria.  Sufferers of chronic rheumatism and gout will benefit by taking lemon juice, also those who have a tendency to bleed, uterine hemorrhages, etc.; rickets and tuberculosis.  In pregnancy, it will help to build bone in the child.  We find that the lemon contains certain elements which will go to build up a healthy system and keep that system healthy and well.  As a food, we find (owing to its potassium content)  it will nourish the brain and nerve cells. Its calcium builds up the bony structure and makes healthy teeth.”

“Some have suggested that the reason fresh lemon juice is similar to digestive enzymes is due to the low amount of sulfur in lemons.  It should be noted that pasteurized and packaged lemon juice is cationic and, therefore, ineffective as a health remedy.”  Lemon juice really does need to come from fresh lemons!

Lemons should be a part of our everyday foods!  You can squeeze lemon juice into a glass of water or make this GREAT homemade lemonade drink!

~ Here’s the recipe >>

Homemade Lemonade ~

Mix together 2 quarts of pure water  + the fresh juice from 3 Lemons, 1/4 tsp. Stevia  (or less if you like it tart), 1-2 tsp. of fresh grated Ginger Root.  Mix all together and store in fridge! Yum!

Another wonderful Sore Throat Remedy Recipe >>

Juice of 1 Lemon + 1 Tbsp. of raw honey – you can warm this slightly, but not too much for fear of destroying the enzymes in the ingredients!

Take by the tsp. to help heal a sore throat!

Kevin and Amy Jo
