Keeping Their Hearts Soft

“Oh Lord, keep their hearts soft and sensitive to You, and to Your precious Word.”  is the prayer that Nancy Campbell prayed  for her children as they were growing up.

I have collected several copies of the Above Rubies magazine over the years.  My first one came from my first midwife.  What a blessing this publication has been for me as I started my journey into motherhood, home schooling and homemaking.

I have to give all the credit for the following article to Nancy Campbell, founder and editor of the Above Rubies magazine.  This piece just totally touched my heart and has moved me to change some things in my life to help my children to have soft hearts… >>

“There is something even more important than teaching God’s Word to our children.  If we want His Word to penetrate their hearts and become walking flesh in their lives, we have to work hard on preparing the soil of their hearts.

Healing Prayer

I have been reading “The Maker’s Diet” for the past couple of weeks now.  I’ve known about the book for awhile now, but just haven’t gotten it to read…until I was at the Goodwill store and found it there for $1.99.  Of course, I grabbed it and put it in my cart!

Of all the books I’ve read, this one really struck me and I thought I would share a piece if it with you today.

God is our Ultimate Healer

When someone is sick and dealing with a disease process…it can often be hard to know exactly what path to take to heal it. Should you go with what your conventional doctor tells you to do or should you go with a natural herbalist, naturopathic doctor or other health professional?  Or should you do some of both?  Either way, we need to trust in the God who made us to lead us down the right path.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”  Matthew 7:7

Consider writing these down and putting them where you will read them each day:

Morning Prayer:

Father God, I thank you for creating me in Your image.  I praise You that I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  I confess that You are the God that heals, my Great Physician.  I ask You to heal my body from the top of my head to the soles of my feet.  I pray that You would regenerate every bone, joint, tendon, ligament, tissue, organ, and cell of my body.  This is the day that the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Evening Prayer:

Father God, I thank you for sustaining me today.  I thank You that You are made perfect in my weakness.  Your grace is sufficient for me.  I thank you that Your steadfast love never ceases and Your mercies are new every morning.  You say in Your Word that mourning may come for a night, bu the new day will bring gladness.  Bless me with a healing night’s sleep.  Restore unto me the joy of my salvation.  Help me to stay on the path that leads to life.

This comes directly from the book.

Thanksgiving Proclamation 1789

Happy Thanksgiving To You All!

In the spirit of the Holiday, this was the proclamation made by President George Washington.  It was in recognition of the first Thanksgiving of our new nation.   You might consider reading this at your Thanksgiving gathering?

Blessings To You And Yours,

Thanksgiving Proclamation 1789 By:  President George Washington

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be.

That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord.

To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best. Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Holiday Cards Made Easy!

Oh My Goodness!  I don’t know about you, but Thanksgiving has really snuck up on us!  What a joy to get together with family and see how much the cousins have grown and to fellowship with family that we only see once a year.

It’s also that time of year that we ponder our year and put together a Christmas letter and family photo to send out to family and friends.  I truly love this time of year to also ponder our Lord and Saviour as our True gift for the season!

Do you send out Christmas Cards?  Is it easy and fun to do or is it a daunting task ?

This is what our Christmas Letter/Card Sending process use to look like:

  • Take a family photo or use one that turned out good that year
  • Order Christmas Photo cards from Costco
  • Write a Christmas Letter
  • Buy Holiday stationary and print out Christmas Letters
  • Buy Christmas stamps (this includes a trip to the post office…with 4 kids in tow, unless I can get Kevin to do it!)
  • Stuff, Stamp and Address envelopes (something that would take me a couple of evenings to do!)  OH-YA!  I’d also put stickers on the outside of the envelopes.
  • Drive to post office with 4 kids in tow and mail Christmas Cards.

Whew….  that just seems like a lot of work!  And it WAS… (and time and money)  But we did it anyhow, because we thought it was important.

This is what our Christmas Letter/Card Sending process looks like now:

  • Take a family photo or use one that turned out good that year
  • Log into SendOutCards and Create a Card:

Upload family photo, write Christmas letter, upload another photo of the kids

  • Choose who to send the card to and Click Send.

Done! I can go back to my holiday cookie baking and spending time with my husband in the evenings!  AND they turn out Beautifully!  I am always impressed!

Is something that you would be interested in too?

SendOutCards (SOC) has been a part of our lives for over 2 years now.  I LOVE THIS SYSTEM!  Why?  You might ask.  It has made this area of my life Simple and Easy by providing a way to send a card in minutes without having to address an envelope, find a stamp and run to the mailbox.   See examples HERE.

Holiday Card Sending is just one of the convenient features of SendOutCards.  A few of my other favorite features include:

  1. The Reminder System >> I get an email reminder about 7 days prior to a Birthday, Anniversary etc… with a quick link to go create and send a card!
  2. The ability to fill up a card with photos of the kids and send it to long distance family! (Grandparents)  No more sending digital photos to Fred Meyers to pick up and then send!  I love this!
  3. Creating Memoirs of family vacations and events!  The easy way to “scrapbook”!  I just create a card with photos of our adventure and send the card to myself.  All for less than $2.50!
  4. The ability to follow a prompting that might be telling me to send a Thank You or Thinking Of You card to someone special in my life.  Without SOC, this wouldn’t be a simple and easy thing to do.  With SOC, I can get a card send in just a few minutes.  That’s powerful!
  5. OH-Ya… and I have my own Handwriting Font and Signature that I can use!  You can’t get more personal than that!

And my most FAVORITE feature ~

SOC stuffs, stamps and sends my cards for me!! And all for less than what I would pay for a Hallmark greeting card at the store…much less.  This equals Simplicity and Ease as a full-time Wife and Homeschooling Mom!

Taking The Time

Ya know, sometimes life just gets overwhelming…  Laundry is piling up, the never-ending dishes to wash, meals to prepare, home schooling to teach, diapers to change, bathrooms to clean… the list could go on and on!  Sometimes, I am blessed to get an afternoon to myself (or the baby is taking an extra long nap) and I get into this Mad Dash to get things done!  I’m such a person of completion, that I LOVE IT!

The downside to this is that I have a tendency to just do things myself and not let the kids help out or get involved.  I know…that taking the time and energy to train and do a task together with your children is rewarding and pays off in the end…  These past few years, as the children are getting older, I have retrained myself to slow down and let them help.  It’s been so rewarding to share in the simple chores of daily life and is pretty darn EXCITING when the dishwasher gets unloaded or the bathroom is cleaned by someone else!

Yesterday, I had on my list of things to do:  Wash The Horses! After a summer of playing, their white tails are not so white anymore and it was 90 degrees out!  So, NO excuses to get this task done…

Here is a glimpse of our afternoon together taking care of the horses >>

We had such a BLAST!  We talked about our responsibility of taking care of our pets and how much fun we had this summer playing with the horses!  It’s a time that they will remember…  and I will too, when they are all grown up and on their own.  hmmm…this time will go by so fast…  Let’s make the MOST of every opportunity!

Do YOU ever feel like just doing your “list” yourself?  I’d love to hear from you!

From Our Family To Yours,

Amy Jo
